FAQ
What are anti-wrinkle injections?
Anti-wrinkle injections (commonly referred to as “tox”) are a prescription medicine injected into specific facial muscles to temporarily relax them, softening expression lines like frown lines, forehead lines, and crow’s feet.
What areas can be treated?
Common areas include:
- Frown lines (between the brows)
- Forehead lines
- Crow’s feet (around the eyes)
- Bunny lines (nose)
- Lip flip / smoker’s lines (selected cases)
- Chin dimpling
- Jaw slimming / masseter (teeth grinding) — suitability varies
Your injector will recommend what’s appropriate for your anatomy and goals.
How does it work?
It reduces the muscle movement that creates dynamic wrinkles. Skin looks smoother while still allowing natural expression when dosed appropriately.
When will I see results?
You may start noticing changes in 3–5 days
Full result typically at 10–14 days
How long does it last?
Most clients find results last around 3–4 months (sometimes shorter/longer depending on metabolism, dose, area treated, and muscle strength).
Will I look “frozen”?
Not if treated conservatively and appropriately. A natural result is achieved by tailoring dose and placement to your facial movement and desired look.
Does it hurt?
Most people describe it as a quick scratch or pinprick. It’s usually very tolerable and fast.
What should I avoid after treatment?
Aftercare Instructions:To ensure the best results and minimise any side effects, please follow these aftercare guidelines carefully:
- Keep the treated muscles active for a few hours after your appointment (by gently frowning, raising your eyebrows, or smiling).
- Avoid touching, rubbing, or massaging the treated areas for at least 24 hours.
- Remain upright for 4–6 hours post-treatment and avoid bending forward or lying down during this time.
- Avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol, and extremes of heat or cold (including saunas, steam rooms, and hot showers) for 24–48 hours.
- Do not apply makeup or skincare products for at least 4 hours after treatment to reduce the risk of infection.
- Use only gentle cleansers and hydrating moisturisers for the first 48 hours; avoid active ingredients such as retinol, glycolic acid, and exfoliants.
- Refrain from facials, massages, or other aesthetic treatments in the treated area for 2 weeks following your injections.
- You may use a cool compress (not ice directly on the skin) to relieve any mild swelling or tenderness.
What are the common side effects?
Usually mild and temporary:
- Small bumps at injection sites (often settle within 20–30 minutes)
- Redness
- Headache (occasionally)
- Bruising or tenderness
Who should NOT have anti-wrinkle injections?
They may not be suitable if you:
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding
- Have certain neuromuscular conditions (e.g., myasthenia gravis)
- Have an active infection/skin irritation at the injection site
- Are unwell with a fever
- Have had previous adverse reactions
Always disclose your full medical history and medications.
How do I prepare for my appointment?
Pre-Treatment Preparation:To ensure the best possible results and minimise any side effects, please prepare for your treatment as follows:
- Avoid blood-thinning medications such as aspirin, ibuprofen, or other anti-inflammatories for 3–4 days prior to treatment, unless prescribed by your doctor. These can increase the risk of bruising.
- Avoid alcohol consumption for 24 hours before your appointment, as it can also increase bruising risk.
- Refrain from chemical peels, skin needling, or laser treatments for at least one week prior to your appointment.
- Avoid vaccinations for 2 weeks before your treatment.
- Please arrive with clean skin, free of makeup, moisturiser, or SPF.
